Installation
Is there anything I should do before installing?
It is a good idea to always create a hard save game file for any character you plan to try a new mod out with before you install it. Keep that save game around as long as possible so you have a point to revert back to in case a mod causes unforeseen issues or you simply don't like it.
Is there anything I should do before updating to a new version?
As with the first install it is always a good idea to create a save game file before updating. Additionally it might be a good idea to create that save game in a small interior cell location like Sanctuary Basement. The reason is that when you exit the basement, it will trigger a fresh game world load with the new version of the mod active. This may help avoid problems related to updating a pre-existing character that had been playing on an older version.
General Questions
Why are they called Zombies?
Zombies are the most common term for them and calling them zombies makes them easily recognizable to most people. This is now configurable as of version 2.1.2 and you can change their name via holotape to either "Zombie", "Walker", or "Feral Ghoul".
Does this mod add Zombies or just change Feral Ghouls already in the game?
This mod overhauls all Feral Ghouls in the game by changing them into zombies. It also provides options to replace other creatures in the game with zombies as well as spawn extras via holotape settings.
Does this mod work with the DLC?
Yes, this mod changes Feral Ghouls in all areas into zombies. The spawn replacement settings for PC/Xbox also function across DLC since they target mostly keywords like ActorTypeAnimal and ActorTypeCreature.
I was infected by a zombie. Can I cure it somehow?
Yes, you can use the same antibiotics that are available in survival mode.
There are too many zombies in my game. Help!
The Zombie Walkers holotape has a lot of options under Spawn Settings that control how many zombies are spawned. Make sure you review these settings if you find you are encountering more than the game can handle. A few big ones to check are:Extra Spawns - this will potentially add a LOT more zombies and would probably be the first thing to look into. Setting the date range to the largest available may spread the spawns out a bit but disabling it is the safest bet if you are facing too many.
Spawn Replacements - an option exists for each category to specify how many zombies to replace each creature/actor/etc. with. You can set this to one for one to reduce the number of zombies.
Also remember that the holotape has options in the utility menu to kill nearby zombies and remove dead zombie bodies which can clean things up and improve game performance.
Mod Conflicts
Zombie Walkers is an overhaul mod and makes a lot of changes. If you suspect you might be experiencing a conflict, try putting Zombie Walkers at the bottom of your load order.
D.E.C.A.Y (v2.1)
The symptom seems to be zombies still doing the sprinting and diving attacks. If you put Zombie Walkers after D.E.C.A.Y then the conflict is resolved and things should work normal.Immersive Gameplay
I've heard multiple reports that this mod conflicts at least with the PS4 version of Zombie Walkers. It seems that even if Zombie Walkers is placed last the zombies damage will be relatively low compared to other actors in the game. This is likely due to immersive gameplay making global gameplay setting changes.
PS4
What is the difference between the PS4 version and the Xbox/PC version?
Why are there headless zombies?
The spawn replacement strategy used for PS4 is to modify leveled lists. Sometimes creatures spawned by leveled list have scripts run on them (by quests or other sources) that expect them to be a certain type. I suspect these quests cause the spawn process to not always work and the result is naked, headless zombie. Hopefully they aren't too common.I installed one of the replacement mods but it doesn't seem to be working.
If you installed the mod and loaded an existing save game then the world cells around your character have already been loaded. This means you'll need to leave the area or get the cells to reset before you'll notice zombies spawning. One possible way to do this involves going to an internal cell (like Sanctuary Basement) and sleeping for several days before emerging or fast travelling to the other side of the map.Can I uninstall the replacement mods so my game returns to normal?
In general, uninstalling mods is not recommended and you should always create a save to revert to before trying out new mods.If you want to try it you may need to get the cells to reset for the change to take effect. Note that more than a couple people have reported problems with their save game after uninstalling. It is not entirely clear if this was directly caused by uninstalling the replacement mods, other mods, or just the save game getting corrupt by a sequence of mod installation/uninstallation.
